Where are all the SharePoint Testers?

A few weeks ago Mark Miller posted about "where have all the SharePoint Evangelists gone?"
  He talked about my move to a nonprofit customer, and Bill English's refocus, among other changes.

 
My question is broader.
  Why are there no real SharePoint testers to speak of.
