This is a good tutorial by Ian that uses SharePoint 2010 column validation to minimize spam.
The solution is used to include a field in the form that requires a certain value for the form to be valid. In this case, the value requires a user to decipher and include the correct from an instruction.
This is a practical implementation of a solution to reduce comment spam, which is not difficult to implement in SharePoint 2010.
